Intellectual property (IP) refers to creations of the mind and is often referred to as intangible assets created by a person, such as an invention, trademark or brand, design, literary and artistic works or even software application.
IP is an increasingly complex area of law, particularly in identifying the existence and parameters of existing intellectual property.
What you will learn
This micro-credential provides an introduction to intellectual property with a focus on practical industry applications.
Upon completion of this micro-credential, learners will be able to:
- identify different types of IP and explain how these relate to ownership
- identify existing and potential IP of a business and understand the IP registration process and databases
- explain the role and impact of IP in business dealing and/or legal agreements, such as joint ventures, partnerships or employee contracts
- demonstrate awareness of the limitations of IP registration in a global and online context
- demonstrate an understanding of remedial action for perceived IP infringement.
